History of Rocky Mountain Pickleball

2019

In 2019, the inaugural Rocky Mountain Tournament Series included the Steamboat Classic, in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Pickleball Open at the Apex Pickleball Complex in Arvada, Colorado. The introduction of both tournaments brought a new level of excitement to players in Colorado and across the region. With over 500 players, the Open became the most attended tournament in Colorado.

2021

Following a year delay due to the COVID pandemic, 2021 marked the reintroduction of the Steamboat Classic, with over 300 players from around the country at the Steamboat Tennis & Pickleball Center. Our special guests included two of the world's best players, Ben Johns and Dekel Bar. They had a great time, with Ben even jumping in to officiate a few games. The early July tournament proved to be a perfect time to visit Steamboat and have a great time on the courts.

August introduced the Rocky Mountain Championships to Denver and the pickleball world. The history making tournament welcomed nearly 1000 athletes to the Gates Tennis Center. Competition included most of the sport's top players, as well as amateurs from around the world. The Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) joined with Rocky Mountain Pickleball to further enhance the tournament experience. The 2021 Rocky Mountain Championships became an immediate hit among players and spectators alike.

The Gates Center was transformed into a pickleball haven, with resurfacing of the Championship and Stadium courts. Expansive seating around the featured courts provided exceptional spectating of the matches. The Championships included 37 courts at the park-like Gates venue. We're looking forward to even more excitment in 2022.

The 2021 Rocky Mountain Pickleball tournament series concluded with the New Mexico Open which was held on Labor Day weekend. Our host venue, the Manzano Mesa pickleball courts, featured 18 permanent courts and excellent specator seating. RMP was pleased to welcome over 300 athletes from 16 states and five countries outside of the the U.S.

2022

The Rocky Mountain Championships again proved it place as the region's premier pickleball tournament, with over 1000 players from around the world.

2023 & BEYOND

RMP is hard at work preparing for the 2023 Rocky Mountain Championships. Partnering with our new host venue, the COLORADO ATHLETIC CLUB - INVERNESS, this year's tournament promises to be one of the best in the tournament's four year history.

The 2023 Rocky Mountain Championships will take place from July 26th through 30th. Player registration is now open and available exclusively on PickleballBrackets.com.

In addition to the RMC, we're exploring introduction and announcement of the inaugural Rocky Mountain Winter Open in January of 2024! Plans for this exciting indoor event will feature over 28 dedicated courts, right in the heart of Denver. We'll be keeping our friends and players updated as the event is finalized.

Finally, we're excited for our friend's at the Steamboat Tennis & Pickleball Center and construction of their 20 new dedicated pickleball courts. Unfortunately the construction schedule will not permit the return of the Steamboat tournament until 2024. However RMP is looking forward to returning to Steamboat during the summer of 2024 to host the most exciting Steamboat tournament yet.
