Saturday, July 29th

4.5 - 5.0 (18-59) and 3.0-3.5-4.0 (60+) Brackets

TEAM SETUP

Each team will include four players, two women, and two men. Team members must be registered in at least one other event (MS, WS, MD, WD, MXD) in the tournament to qualify to compete in the Team Challenge.UTPR will be used to determine the skill rating players may compete in. Players must compete within the UTPR skill levels designated for the bracket they register (3.0-4.0 or 4.5-5.0). (If your current gender or mixed doubles UTPR is higher than 4.49, you may not compete in the 3.0-4.0 bracket groups.) Players may play up in skill level but not down. Players may play down in age. However, if a player chooses to do so, THEY SHOULD CHECK THE MATCH SCHEDULE OF THEIR OTHER EVENTS, keeping in mind the team event may conflict. (Dates for the Team Challenge were determined so as not to conflict with other events in the SAME AGE GROUPS.)

EVENT REGISTRATION

Due to current limitations in the Pickleball Brackets software platform, registration for the Team Competition is considered a CoEd doubles event. The translation here is that teams must register in two pairs as if registering for a doubles event. Following registration of your entire team, the team needs to send the tournament an email (teamchallenge@rmpickleball.com), including their age/skill group and team members' names. The team will then be assigned a Team Number. As an option, the number may be replaced with a Team Name selected by the players.

COMPETITION

There are two skill level groups, 3.0 to 4.0 and 4.5 to 5.0. Within each skill level group, there are two age groups: 18-59 and 60+All matches will be officiated. Teams will have one one-minute time-out available per match. Players will be given two (2) minutes in between the doubles matches to be ready to play and five (5) minutes between the MXD and Singles competition. This event is single elimination. If your team wins a round, you move on. If your team loses, you're out.

EACH ROUND INCLUDES

WOMENS DOUBLES MATCH

Rally scoring to 15, win by 2 (meaning a point will be scored by a team whether serving or not). Teams will switch sides when a team reaches 8. When a team reaches 14, they must be serving to score additional points.

MENS DOUBLES MATCH

Rally scoring to 15, win by 2 (meaning a point will be scored by a team whether serving or not). Teams will switch sides when a team reaches 8. When a team reaches 14, they must be serving to score additional points.

MIXED DOUBLES MATCH(S)

Rally scoring to 15, win by 2 (meaning a point will be scored by a team whether serving or not). Teams will switch sides when a team reaches 8. When a team reaches 14, they must be serving to score additional points.

If a team has won both gender doubles matches and wins the first MXD match (having won three matches), the round is over.

However, if a team lost the two gender doubles matches, and wins both MXD matches, a singles tiebreaker will result to determine the round’s winner.

If, following the WD, MD, and MXD events, the teams have split (each winning two matches), a singles tie-breaker will be played to determine the round’s winner.

SINGLES TIE-BREAKER MATCH

Rally scoring to 21, win by 2 points.

The team with lesser TOTAL points scored in the round’s previous matches will determine its player lineup (who will play first, second, third, and forth).

This schedule will be given to the opposing team, who will determine the order and who their players will compete against.

Upon either team reaching 4, 8, 12, and 18 points, both teams will bring in their next player and switch sides of the court. The final players will remain on the court until the match ends.

When a team reaches 20 points, they must be serving to score additional points.

The first team reaching 21, leading the opponent by 2, is the winner and moves on in the bracket (or wins the event).

A single elimination format will be used to determine the winning teams in each bracket.
